POLL: Yea or Nay on South Valley Park

Would bathrooms and a concession stand be the park's long-awaited boost, or does crime lurk around the corner?

The Montgomery Village Foundation is expected to decide next month whether to ask state legislators to pony up half of the funding for a $250,000 proposal at South Valley Park that would:

  • Build a concession stand in lieu of the run-down trailer that the Montgomery Village Sports Association uses for its teams' home games
  • Replace the park's port-a-johns with permanent bathrooms, to be used by MVSA as well as visitors to the Lawn Theater

Amid an increasingly heated debate, supporters say the upgrades are sorely needed, while opponents worry the structures will be a magnet for crime, vermin and other unsavory elements.
