A 60-year-old Germantown man was killed in the collision.
A 60-year-old Germantown man was struck and killed by a vehicle at the Lakeforest Bus Station on Friday, April 26, Montgomery County police said Monday. The victim, identified as Silvano Celedonio Alvarado, of the 12900 block of Walnut View Court, succumbed to his injuries on April 29, police said. Alvarado was attempting to cross Lost Knife Road near Odendhal Avenue when he was struck, police said. He was crossing Lost Knife Road from the median to the curb when he was struck by a black 2005 Lexus 300 that was traveling southbound on Lost Knife Road. The driver of the Lexus has been identified as Song Hee Lee, age 71, of the 200 block of Shadow Glen Court in Gaithersburg, police said. Lee stayed on the scene of the collision and assisted…

Kentlands Chocolatier SPAGnVOLA will open a second Gaithersburg location in May.
It's about to get easier for chocoholics to get their fix in Gaithersburg. Kentlands-based chocolatier SPAGnVOLA announced Monday it will open a second location at Lakeforest Mall. Four to six serious incidents per year occur at the Gaithersburg mall, according to the report.
The number of crimes occuring annually at Lakeforest Mall have remained about the same for a number of years, according to a report by The Gazette. Since January 2010, four to six serious incidents per year—which include burglary, assault, robbery and carjacking—have occurred on mall property, according to data from the Gaithersburg Police Department cited in The Gazette report. “We do have a lot of officers work there part-time, in collaboration with mall security,” in an effort to curb incidents like those, Gaithersburg police Officer Dan Lane said, according to the report. Anticipation grew for revitalization of Lakeforest Mall when it was purchased in early September of last year, and within the last week, the mall has sought input from its shoppers on future retailers. On Thursday, Jan. 24, Lakeforest Mall asked its approximately 5,600 Facebook followers a simple question: "What new stores would YOU like to see at Lakeforest?" Plain clothed officers from Gaithersburg and Montgomery County police departments arrested 13 people during a two day "Holiday Safety" intitative at Lakeforest Mall, police said Monday afternoon. A suspect fled on foot after stealing two rings from Zales The Diamond Store, police said.
Police are looking for a man who fled on foot after stealing two rings from a Lakeforest Mall jeweler, Gaithersburg police officer Dan Lane said. Police responded to a theft at Zales The Diamond Store at 5:51 p.m., and it's unclear what direction the suspect was headed after fleeing the scene, Lane said. The suspect, a black male with stubble on his face, was last seen wearing a blue, green and white plaid shirt with jeans, Montgomery County police officer Britta Thomas said. Update (9:04 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5): Gaithersburg Economic Development Director Tom Lonergan confirmed the sale of Lakeforest Mall at Tuesday evening's Mayor and Council meeting. Lonergan said the city will meet with new management group Urban Retail Properties on Wednesday and new owner Five Mile Capital Partners within the next week to learn more about plans to revitalize the mall. Montgomery County police officers responded to a fight at Lakeforest Mall early Saturday afternoon.
Montgomery County police responded to a fight at Lakeforest Mall early Saturday afternoon, MCPD spokesperson Gloria Jackson reported. Two people were fighting and surrounded by a lot of bystanders, Jackson said describing the scene, but the situtation is under control. Police officers are on scene dispersing the crowd, Jackson said, and an ambulance responded to "check up" on potential injuries. Gaithersburg Police Department spokesperson officer Dan Lane said the fight involved three people and two females were arrested. The type of charges could not be confirmed at this time. Additional officers were requested as standard procedure due to the large crowd and multiple suspects, Lane said.

Former Lakeforest Mall shop owner was tried for paying cash for stolen jewelry, melting it down for profit
Under a plea agreement, a former Lakeforest mall jewelry store owner convicted of fencing was sentenced to one year unsupervised probation and was temporarily banned from the second-hand jewelry business in Montgomery County. Kyong Cha “Mrs. Kay” Fromme, of Columbia, Md., was sentenced Thursday in Montgomery County Circuit Court. Fromme will also have to serve 50 hours of community service and will face a one-year jail term if she violates the terms of her probation, court records show. Fromme was tried for paying cash for stolen jewelry pawned at her shop, the now-closed Royal Jewelers, and failing to keep proper records of the transactions.
