Gaithersburg awarded a record 10 students with a total of $9,000 in scholarship funds through the W. Edward Bohrer, Jr. Memorial CHARACTER COUNTS! Scholarship program, the city announced Wednesday. The program rewards city students who embody the Six Pillars of CHARACTER COUNTS! - trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Two Gaithersburg-area high school seniors were among 21 from Montgomery County to win $1,000 scholarships from Comcast. Alfredo Colina, of Gaithersburg High School, and Sohini Kundu, of Quince Orchard High School, were recognized for their leadership skills, academic achievement and commitment to community service as part of Comcast's Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program, the company announced Wednesday. “The very best investment we can make as Marylanders is to help our students reach their academic objectives,” Maryland Gov. Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce awarded $5,000 and $2,500 scholarships during its annual Celebration Dinner & Awards Ceremony on Thursday.
A Germantown dad was one of five Montgomery College students to receive a scholarship from the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, the chamber announced Monday. Rich Erickson was awarded $5,000 during the chamber’s annual Celebration Dinner & Awards Ceremony. The chamber also awarded four $2,500 scholarships to students who lived Upcounty. Erickson, who is studying electrical engineering, lives in Germantown with his wife and 1-year-old son. He decided to enroll at Montgomery College after loosing his job, according to the chamber.
