The top-seeded Gaithersburg High School Lady Trojans were eliminated Friday in the 4A West region final by No. 2 Whitman, The Gazette reported. The Lady Trojans trailed throughout the game, getting as close as an 8-point deficit in the final quarter before losing 46-31. Gaithersburg star Deja Rollins had 11 points before fouling out, according to the report. “We just couldn’t get any shots and Whitman was executing,” Trojans coach Adrian McDaniel told The Gazette. “They had a great game plan and they executed. The first half, we scored one point in the first quarter — that was a season low — and we could hardly score in the second quarter. It just wasn’t our night.” Read the full story on The Gazette. Led by point guard Deja Collins, the Gaithersburg High School girl's basketball team is looking to capture its third consecutive MPSSAA State Championship.
Deja Rollins could only watch from the sideline as her Gaithersburg High School girl’s basketball team suffered its fourth loss of the young season, 65-54, at Northwest High School on Dec. 21. The two-time defending MPSSAA Girl’s Basketball Tournament champions lost four of their first seven games, entering the holiday break in an unfamiliar position. Two months later, though, those early season missteps are a distant memory. Rollins is healthy, and so are Gaithersburg’s tournament…

While state and county lawmakers have made strides in requiring concussion-training for high school coaches, local advocate and Patch blogger Tom Hearn says it’s not enough. Hearn, whose own son sustained a concussion playing JV football at Whitman High School in 2011, urges the county school board to include $500,000 in funding for high school athletic trainers in…
