Report: Quince Orchard Transfer Racking Up Early Scholarship Offers

WaPo: Adam McLean, a sophomore transfer defensive lineman, has received scholarship offers from three prominent Division I football programs.

Adam McLean has gone from one Gaithersburg school to another, and he's taking a strong football pedigree with him. The former Avalon School defensive lineman will play for Quince Orchard in the fall, and he's already received a number of scholarship offers, The Washington Post reported. Florida State, Nebraska and Virginia Tech have all made offers to the 6-foot-2, 260-pound standout, according to the report. Scouting service Rivals.com reports McLean has also received interest from Georgia, Maryland, Missouri, NC State, Ohio and Rutgers. Gaithersburg Running Back Announces Verbal Commitment

Gaithersburg High School's Solomon Vault took to Twitter Thursday to announce his college decision.

Gaithersburg High School star running back Solomon Vault is headed to Northwestern. The junior running back made the following announcement Thursday morning on Twitter: Blessed to be able to say that i am COMMITTED to #Northwestern University!!!! #NU#B1GCATS Shortly prior to his own tweet, Gaithersburg head football coach Kreg Kephart congratulated his running back, and even spoiled the announcement. WaPo: Gaithersburg Running Back Adds Scholarship Offer From Big Ten

Gaithersburg High School junior running back Solomon Vault picks up first scholarship offer from a Big Ten school, The Washington Post reports.

Gaithersburg High School junior running back Solomon Vault has received a scholarship offer from the University of Minnesota, his first offer from a Big Ten school, his third from a Division I (FBS) football program and his sixth scholarship offer overall, according to The Washington Post. Vault was an honorable mention All-Met selection at Gaithersburg. The offer from the Big Ten school marks Vault's second from a BCS conference. The running back had previously picked up an offer from current Big East and future Atlantic Coast Conference member Pittsburgh. Vault led Gaithersburg with 1,251 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns in 2012, according to the report. He has picked up additional offers from Marshall, Old Dominion and Western Michigan, …

QO, Gaithersburg Dominate Post's All-Montgomery 4A Football Team

One-third of all players and coaches recognized by The Washington Post play for Quince Orchard or Gaithersburg high schools.

The Washington Post released Friday its 2012 All-Montgomery County 4A Football Team, and it's dominated by Gaithersburg-area athletes. Players from state runner-up Quince Orchard and Gaithersburg high schools make up one-third of the honorees, including Coach of the Year Dave Mencarini (Quince Orchard) and Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Newby (Quince Orchard, senior linebacker). Quince Orchard To Face Henry A. Wise For State Football Title

The Cougars advance to second straight title game with a 21-19 win over Westminster.

Quince Orchard High School's varsity football team had the Maryland 4A state championship ripped from its hands last year because of a successful two-point conversion in overtime by Old Mill. On Friday, the Cougars have a chance to take it back. The Gaithersburg school advanced to its second consecutive title game, narrowly escaping Westminster, 21-19, on a missed field goal as time expired, The Gazette reported. Quince Orchard had seen its 14-0 lead turn into a 19-14 deficit before taking the lead for good on an 83-yard touchdown pass to Elliott Davis from backup quarterback Matt Choi midway through the third quarter, according to the report. Recruiting Roundup: Gaithersburg Running Back Commits to Pitt

Running back Rachid Ibrahim of The Avalon School in Gaithersburg announces decision to continue his football career at the University of Pittsburgh.

A Gaithersburg athlete announced Thursday his intention to play collegiate football at a school in Maryland's neighbor to the north. Running back Rachid Ibrahim, of The Avalon School, verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh, according to a report by The Pitt Stop. Ibrahim, an Avalon senior, is ranked by Rivals.com and ESPN as a three-star prospect. According to ESPN, Ibrahim "runs with the slashing style and playing speed which allows him to rip off huge gains once in the open field... his toughness and playing speed could earn him early playing time if a red shirt year isn't deemed necessary."  Rivals.com reports Ibrahim also received scholarship offers from Boston College, East Carolina, Iowa and Ohio.

Football Recap: Gaithersburg High Falls to Rival Northwest; QO, WM Roll

Trojans blow 14-point halftime lead, fall to Northwest. Quince Orchard and Watkins Mill each dominate opponents.

The narrative is the same each week: two Gaithersburg-area high schools win big while another falls in dramatic fashion. Northwest 31-Gaithersburg 21 Paced by running back Soloman Vault's three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving), Gaithersburg managed to build a 21-7 halftime lead over rival Northwest on Saturday afternoon, but the tide shifted in favor of the Jaguars in the second half.
