Berthiaume Won't Run Again for School Board

The District 2 representative will leave after first term.

Board of Education member Laura Berthiaume will not seek re-election in 2012, the Parents' Coalition of Montgomery County reported. She represents District 2, which includes the Rockville, Richard Montgomery, Wootton, Winston Churchill and Northwest clusters. Berthiaume said Montgomery County Public Schools' recently approved school redistricting, which would reduce the size of District 2, did not factor into her decision.  You can read more in the Gazette.

"We don't know how bad it is or how bad it's going to be," Weast said. "We will do everything we can to minimize damage, but there will be damage." Weast, school board members and several Montgomery County Council members explained their priorities and plans for the fiscal year 2012 operating budget, which Weast proposed to be $2.16 billion in December.
