Report: Gaithersburg Man Sentenced To 60 Years For Role In Violent Robbery

Sergio Hernandez, 24, robbed and assaulted people playing poker at a College Park apartment in 2011, The Gazette reported.

A 24-year-old Gaithersburg man was sentenced to 60 years in prison for his role in a violent robbery of a College Park poker game in 2011, according to a report by The Gazette. Sergio Hernandez "was convicted on 52 of 53 counts of robbery, assault and related charges stemming from the holdup that involved Hernandez beating victims in the head with firearms before fleeing with money, cell phones, clothing and other valuables," according to the report. Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said in a statement that having witnesses identify Hernandez as a gunman in the incident was a key to the conviction. Woman Robbed, Punched In Potomac Apartment Building

After the woman was assaulted, she noticed that cash was missing from her purse.

A woman was punched in the eye and robbed in the trash room of a Potomac apartment building Nov. 18, according to Montgomery County police. A 43-year-old woman was in the basement trash room of an apartment building in the 10500 block of Montrose Road around 6:30 p.m. when she noticed a man rummaging through the trash, according to police spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Innocenti. The woman asked the man if she could help him, and he turned and punched the woman in the eye, Innocenti said. The man then ran up the steps and fled the building, Innocenti said. After the incident, the woman noticed cash was missing from her purse, according to Innocenti. Police would not say whether the woman lived in the building. Police are describing the …

Gaithersburg Man Arrested for First Degree Assault

Hidalgo Reyes, of the unit block of East Deer Park Road, was arrested Thursday for assault first degree and assault second degree.

A Gaithersburg man faces charges of first and second degree assault in an attack Thursday in the unit block of East Deer Park Road in Gaithersburg. Hidalgo Reyes, 50, was arrested Thursday afternoon following a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation with a female victim, police said. At 3:30 a.m., Gaithersburg officers responded to the unit block of East Deer Park Road for a possible suicide. Upon arrival, police observed an adult female laying on the ground and rendered first aid until fire and rescue personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Reyes is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center. Young Women Fight Over Pants, Arrested At Lakeforest's Body Central Store

Women in early 20s charged in brawl over last pants in their size.

Two women fighting over over the last pair of pants in their size were arrested and charged with assaulting each other Saturday afternoon at Lakeforest Mall's Body Central Store, Montgomery County police said. Officers were called to the mall and found the two women punching each other and wrestling on the floor, police said. Officers were able to separate the two and place them in custody.  The suspects were identified by police as Andrea N. Williams, 22, of the 300 block of Amberfield Lane in Gaithersburg, and Ethelyn R. Gladney, 21, of the 20100 block of Loading Rock Place in Montgomery Village. Police Arrest Man For February Stabbing, Robbery

The 21-year-old was arrested on an unrelated charge and then released, before being arrested again.

Gaithersburg Police have arrested a 21-year-old Gaithersburg man for robbing and stabbing a man last month. Jose Aldaberto Vail, of North Summit Drive, was arrested on March 14 and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and attempted theft. According to police, on Feb. 23, a Hispanic man approached the victim in the unit block of Nina Court, brandished a knife and demanded property. The victim refused to give the suspect anything and so the suspect stabbed him, police said. He sustained a minor cut on his lower back, police said. The suspect then fled on foot. Police Arrest Man For Road Rage, Pointing Rifle

Police say the 18-year-old was driving on Sam Eig Highway when the assault happened.

An 18-year-old Gaithersburg area man was arrested on Valentines Day after he pointed a rifle at a driver during a road rage incident earlier this month, police said. Kenneth A. Johnson Jr., of the 17800 block of Washington Grove Lane, was charged with 1st and 2nd degree assault, and has been released on $5,000 bond, according to online court records. On Feb. 8 at around 7:20am, police were called to Sam Eig Highway between the Intercounty Connector and Great Seneca Highway, police report. 'Potomac River Rapist' Continues to Elude FBI

Authorities say recent publicity blitz has produced strong leads in the investigation.

Authorities say fewer than 10 men have volunteered to submit DNA samples for analysis after law enforcement officials began a blitz campaign last year to track down a suspect dubbed the "Potomac River Rapist." The Associated Press reports "investigators have met with some men," and analysis of the DNA is underway. Police are looking for a man they believe is connected to nine attacks against women between 1991 and 1998, most of which occurred in Montgomery County. He is also believed to be responsible for the Georgetown murder of Christine Mirzayan on Aug. 1, 1998.
