Have a Splash, Then Soak Up Some Heritage

Dive-In movie, then farmers market wine tasting, then historical sites host free tours and activities during the Heritage Days Festival.

With the mercury finally rising to summer highs, MVers have a couple chances to start their weekend off with a splash.

First, round up your lil' uns and head over to Stedwick pool for this summer's first Dive-In Movie, where last year's "Dolphin Tale" -- starring Harry Connick, Jr., Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson and Morgan Freeman -- is sure to tug on heartstrings young and old alike.

Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk. Entry is free with a valid MVF activity card (no guests). Free for children under 2 years old; $3 for children age 2 through 15; everyone else pays $6.

Then Saturday morning, the Montgomery Village Farmers Market is offering up a wholly different kind of splash when it hosts Elk Run Vineyards for the first of three Saturdays this summer featuring wine for tasting and sale. The farmers market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. next to Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, at the intersection of Montgomery Village Avenue and Centerway Road.

Meanwhile, in nearly three dozen spots all across Montgomery County, the 15th annual Montgomery County Heritage Days festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, with free events that offer visitors a venture to the county's historic, cultural and natural resources.

On Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., visitors are invited to more than 30 open houses and events across the county. Check out this list for events near Montgomery Village. A full list of events can be found on the Heritage Days website.
