Lady 'Rines Gut Out OT Playoff Win

McKenna Guilds knocks home penalty kick in extra time to give Watkins Mill a 2-1 victory over South Hagerstown.

Watkins Mill girls' soccer rallied from a halftime deficit Thursday night to snatch a 2-1 playoff win in severe conditions at South Hagerstown High School.

The Wolverines took more than a dozen shots in the first half, far outnumbering South Hagerstown's chances. But it was the Rebels who struck first, netting a goal five minutes before halftime.

Watkins Mill scored the equalizer midway through the second half when freshman Nathaly Alvear drove home the rebound of a McKenna Guilds free kick. Five minutes into overtime, Guilds, the team's leading scorer, finished off the win on a penalty kick after she was taken down inside the box.

Watkins Mill (5-8) next face the winner of tonight's matchup between Urbana and Rockville.
