Montgomery County Teacher to Vie for Miss America Crown

The woman who will represent Maryland in this fall’s Miss America pageant hails from Baltimore County, but knows a thing or two about Montgomery County.

Christina Denny, a 22-year-old Owings Mills resident, spent last school year teaching chemistry, government, algebra and sign language at the private Echelon Academy in Olney,  The Gazette reported.

Denny won the statewide pageant with a platform highlighting the need for curriculum for kids with special needs, a student population she taught at Echelon, the newspaper reported.

“She is very energetic and has a penchant for making learning fun,” said Kelly Mazzeo, the school’s founder and director. “She uses drama and technology to teach difficult subjects, and makes it meaningful learning for the kids.”

Denny will compete in the Miss America pageant on Sept. 10 in Atlantic City, NJ.
