Wootton Student Indicted for Robbery, Theft, Attempted Carjacking

The Wootton High School senior arrested last month as he fled a shopping center in Rockville is headed to trial in Montgomery County District Court after being indicted Thursday on three criminal charges.
A Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted Steven P. Choi on one count of attempted carjacking, one count of carrying a dangerous concealed weapon and one count of theft under $100.
Choi, 17, of the 13900 block of Riding Loop Lane in Gaithersburg is charged as an adult. If found guilty on all three counts, he faces up to 53 years in jail and a $1,000 fine.

A scheduling hearing is set for June 17.
When Montgomery County Police arrested Choi outside the shopping center at Darnestown Road and Key West Avenue on April 18, he was carrying a "large kitchen knife," a note detailing his plot to steal a car and kill someone, and latex gloves to conceal his fingerprints, according to court records. He had been "lurking" at the shopping center for hours before robbing , according to court records.
