Police Use Tasers at Home Two Days After SWAT Response

24-year-old Montgomery Village man who refused to obey officers' commands Thursday morning had tried to rob someone at gunpoint hours earlier, police say.

Montgomery County police called to the same Montgomery Village home for the third time in two days had to use stun guns early Thursday morning to subdue a man who defied their commands.

After the man was taken into custody for causing the disturbance in the 18000 block of Singing Pine Circle—in The Hamptons neighborhood of South Village—he was identified as one of two assailants who tried to rob someone at gunpoint a few hours earlier.

Ronald Irvin Rogers, Jr., 24, of the 18600 block of Walkers Choice Road, faces three criminal charges in connection with the two incidents: armed robbery, trespassing and failure to obey a reasonable order.

The robbery charge traces back to shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, when an alleged victim told police that two men put guns to his head before he managed to flee.

Four hours later, police received the call for a disorderly man at the same address, banging on the front door, yelling and "acting like he was drunk," said Capt. Paul Starks, a police spokesman.

Responding officers had to deploy their stun guns to get Rogers under control.

“He was given verbal commands, and when he refused, he was tased,” said Officer Howard Hersh, a police spokesman.

Hersh did not know how many officers discharged their stun gun.

The victim from the attempted robbery then identified Rogers as one of his assailants.

Rogers’s arrest is the first to come out of a 34-hour stretch in which police were called to the address three times.

Tuesday afternoon, officers responding to a reported assault in the home called for SWAT backup after they were told that someone inside had a rifle, Starks said.

A search of the home turned up no firearms.

"All we found were some machetes," Starks said.

Detectives detained two people for questioning Tuesday night, but did not file criminal charges.
