Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Montgomery Village

Police say the drive did a "wheelie" and lost control.

Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal accident that involved a motorcycle in Montgomery Village.

Around 5 p.m. Friday, officers were called out to the 20700 block of Highland Hall Drive for a collision. There they found that the man pinned underneath his motorcycle, according to the police report.

The man was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

An initial investigation reveals that the driver—identified as 44-year-old Montgomery Village resident Richard Mark Sampson— did a "wheelie" and lost control of his 2002 Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle while he was riding along Highland Hall Drive.

The bike accelerated, striking a curb, going over the grass and striking a house. The bike and Sampson finally came to rest after crashing through a window and landing in the home.

The home was owned by Sampson.

This collision remains under investigation.  Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.  Callers may remain anonymous.
