Plane Botches Landing at Montgomery County Airpark

Pilot complained of icy conditions.

Trying to land as icy weather rolled in, a six-passenger plane—carrying four adults and 18-month-old twins—missed its landing Monday night at the Montgomery County Airpark but injured no one on board.

The plane en route from Florida came up short of the Gaithersburg airport’s 4,200-foot runway just after 7:30 p.m., according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

“I can’t really speak to the cause of it. The pilot was complaining of ice, but other than that, I can’t really make any judgments on the cause,” said Capt. Robert Landry. “… The plane stayed upright and just landed short of the runway. So everybody’s lucky.”
