An adult male suffered multiple gunshot wounds Tuesday evening in Gaithersburg and was being treated at a local trauma facility, Gaithersburg police officer Dan Lane told Patch.

Gaithersburg and Montgomery County police officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 1000 block of West Side Drive in Gaithersburg at 5:04 p.m., Lane said.

Upon arrival, officers observed a man on the ground who had suffered gunshot wounds, Lane said.

Police are still looking for the weapon. Neighbors said they saw K9 units searching along the tree line of Interstate 270.

Lane confirmed a "person of interest" was in custody but no other information was available due to an ongoing investigation.

This story was corrected earlier to remove the type of injuries, which police now say are unclear at this time.

This is near Malcolm King Park, where a body was found a couple of years ago. Like this case, the shooter was not local. I have to wonder what's going on in this area that attracts people and leads to this kind of violence? I spend a lot of time in this park and know there's a lot of drug activity. There is also graffiti covering the tunnels that run from the park under 370 to the Washingtonian and Swisher Sweet "blunt" wrappers everywhere. Is this gang activity? I don't know but when you stubble upon a rock tagged with "Prey" it makes you wonder. I think the police should get out of their cars every now and then. Cleaning up the park will go a long way towards making this area safer for the residents.
