Man Dead, Woman Injured in Cider Mill

Death ruled suspicious; incident believed to be domestic in nature.

The death last night in Montgomery Village was a botched murder-suicide, authorities say, but the motive for the attack remains under investigation.

With his 15- and 10-year-old daughters asleep in their apartment, Aggrey Mulo Naya, 46, attacked his wife with a hammer then fatally stabbed himself after she fled their apartment in the Cider Mill apartment complex, according to Montgomery County police.

Officers responding to a call for domestic violence shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday found Aggrey Mulo Naya dead in a bedroom with multiple stab wounds. The state medical examiner in Baltimore has determined that the wounds were self-inflicted.

“He attempted to kill his wife, and then he took his own life,” said Lucille Baur, a police spokeswoman.

Officers found Magdalene Syomba Naya, 36, outside the apartment building in the 18300 block of Lost Knife Circle. She remains in critical condition, but is expected to survive, Baur said.

The couple’s daughters are being cared for by friends of the family.

An apparent domestic incident last night in Montgomery Village’s Cider Mill Apartments has left one man dead and a woman in the hospital.

Montgomery County police received a report of a domestic disturbance at around 11 p.m. Tuesday night. Officers responded to an apartment in the 18300 block of Lost Knife Circle, where they found a man and a woman. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to the state medical examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police have not disclosed the severity of the woman’s injuries, the nature of the man and woman’s relationship, nor what detectives believe could be the motive.

Their names are being withheld pending family notification.
