Gaithersburg Man Killed After Fight, Police Say

Germantown man charged with second-degree murder.

Update, 7:06 p.m.: Bail was set at $500,000 for second-degree murder, according to Arthur M. Wallenstein, director of the Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation.

Original: A 28-year-old Gaithersburg man died Saturday night after an altercation with an acquaintance at a family gathering, Montgomery County Police reported Sunday.

Montgomery County Police, Gaithersburg Police, and fire and rescue personnel were dispatched to the 100 block of Steven Court at about 10:50 p.m. Saturday for the report of an assault, according to a release provided by Montgomery County Police.

Officers found Justin Eugene Carter lying unresponsive on the ground outside his home. He had suffered multiple head injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he died, police said. An autopsy revealed that Carter died as a result of blunt force trauma to his head.

Police have charged Brandon Lamont Dashiell, 24, of the 19000 block of Red Robin Terrace in Germantown, with second-degree murder.

After a preliminary investigation, police believe Carter and Dashiell were attending a family gathering on Steven Court when the two became involved in a fight. Dashiell left the scene before police arrived, police said.

Dashiell was interviewed Sunday by detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division and then charged. Police did not provide bail information.
