Assault, Strong-Arm Robberies, Failed Purse Snatch

Crime summary covers Sept. 12 through Sept. 20.

The following is from the most recent crime summary for the Montgomery County Police Department's Sixth District, which covers Montgomery Village and Gaithersburg. Arrests do not imply guilt.

A commercial burglary occurred at Family Neck & Back, at 19110 Montgomery Village Ave., between Tuesday, Sept. 13 and Wednesday, Sept. 14. There were no signs of forced entry.  

An attempted strong-arm robbery occurred on Thursday, Sept. 15 in Stedwick. The adult male victim was waiting at a red light at Watkins Mill Road and Stedwick Road. A group of males approached his vehicle. One stood in front of his car while another asked him for a cigarette, reached into the vehicle and tried to steal his necklace and wallet. The victim drove off before anything was obtained.  One suspect is described as a black male, 25 to 27 years old, 6’0” tall, 165 pounds and wearing a red baseball cap with a black “C.” The other two suspects are described as black males 16 to 17 years old, one of whom was 5’8” tall and weighed 135 pounds.

An aggravated assault occurred in the 400 block of Christopher Ave. at around 8:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. An adult male victim was allegedly assaulted on a Ride-On bus by one suspect, and then four other suspects chased him around the parking lot after he got off the bus. The first suspect is described as a black female 20 to 25 years old, 5’10” to 5’11” tall, 140 to 145 pounds, with medium-length hair. The four others suspects are described as black males 20 to 25 years old.

An attempted purse snatch occurred at Rothbury Lane and Spur Hill Drive in Patton Ridge on Friday, Sept. 16. The adult female victim was walking home when two males approached her and asked her for the time. They then tried to snatch her purse, but the victim would not relinquish it. The suspects fled as the victim was yelling for help. Both suspects are described as black males, 18 to 20 years old. One is 6’0” tall and was wearing a black baseball cap and all black clothing. The other is 5’9” tall and was wearing a brown t-shirt with black jeans.

A strong-arm robbery occurred along a path behind the 19800 block of Bazzellton Place in Patton Ridge on Saturday, Sept. 17. A group of suspects stole unattended bicycles from in front of a business on Rothbury Drive and headed down the path. An adult male victim came across the group and was assaulted and robbed of property. Two adults were arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
