Updated: Armed Suspect Robs M&T Bank in Potomac

Police confirm a robbery occurred at M&T Bank in Potomac at 9:40 a.m. Friday.

Update, 1:50 p.m.: Preliminary investigations show that one armed suspect entered the in Potomac and approached a teller demanding cash, according to a police release.

After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot via the front door of the bank towards River Road. No one was injured during the incident. Montgomery County police officers responded to the incident at 9:41 a.m.

Police describe the suspect as a white male of unknown age, between 6 feet and 6'1" tall, with a medium to heavy set build. The suspect was dressed was dressed in a gray hooded sweatshirt, a gray urban camouflage colored baseball hat, gloves, black scarf, white tyvek type jacket and pants and a white plastic
mask covering his face. He was armed with a small black handgun and carried an umbrella during the robbery, according to the release.

Major Crimes Division and the FBI are investigating. Anyone who has information about this bank robbery or the suspect is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5100. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).

Originial story, 11:30 a.m.: The M&T Bank in Potomac was robbed at approximately 9:40 a.m. today, Montgomery County Police have confirmed.

"We had a bank robbery at the 10100 block of River Road, the M&T building," said police spokeswoman Sergent Jennifer McNeal. "That's all the information we have right now."

The bank will remain open for normal hours today, according to M&T employees.
