Keep Your Mind in Good Health

Dementia, Alzheimer’s and even milder forms of forgetfulness are a concern for many of us, because of our family history, or even our increased awareness of their debilitating effects. Good brain health is important for memory, thinking, problem solving, sleeping and maintaining independence longer as we age. With that in mind, Ingleside at King Farm is hosting a Brain Health Fair on Wednesday, November 20th, in our Atrium lobby, from 11:00 am-2:00 pm. This event is open to the public and is being held in honor of National Memory Screening day.

The theme of the Brain Health Fair is Mind your Mind, and will focus on brain health, and include information about how you can maintain and enhance your cognitive abilities; a voluntary memory screening; nutritional and physical wellness; and other brain health information.

According to Bree Baldwin, Memory Activity Specialist at Ingleside at King Farm, Ingleside is teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America who sponsors the National Memory Screening Day each year. From the AFA website, the confidential screenings are designed “to help promote early detection and intervention for those concerned about memory loss and successful aging.”

Ingleside at King Farm is a continuing care retirement community which places wellness at the center of our programming. We host a Wellness Wednesday program each week, and this free health fair is an example of the many ways we use Wednesday’s to educate our members and the broader community about the many dimensions of wellness.

If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Chelsea Gottleib, by calling 240-499-9019.

Other ways of improving your mind may be getting involved in the lives of others, and expanding your intellectual pursuits to include art appreciation. As such, Ingleside has two other mind expanding opportunities this month.

One of our IKF members, Nancy Kaplan, leads our community involvement in Montgomery County Health and Human Services’ Project Turkey each year. She volunteers to help supply thanksgiving dinner gift cards to county citizens who might otherwise go without.  You can support Project Turkey by making a donation. Contact Chelsea Gottleib at 240-499-9019 for details.

Beautiful and creative works of art can stimulate the mind, too. Ingleside artists will host an Art Opening Reception on Thursday November 14th 10:00am – 11:30am for their new art show. Visit Ingleside at King Farm for a live music and mimosas in our multipurpose room and meet our member artists. Reception is Thurs., Nov 14, 10:00-11:30am in the multipurpose room, 701 King Farm Blvd., Rockville. RSVP to Chelsea, 240-499-9019, or visit inglesidekingfarm.org.

In early December, we offer a wonderful opportunity for a full tour of our community. If you know of a retiree looking to transition to a new living situation, please bring them for lunch and a special “inside” look.  This will be their opportunity to explore the continuing care retirement community in Rockville’s planned neighborhood of King Farm, Tues., Dec 3, 11:00am-1:30pm. Join us for “Dine and Discover” where they will meet some of our members and staff and learn about Ingleside at King Farm, 701 King Farm Blvd., Rockville. RSVP to Chelsea, 240-499-9019, or visit inglesidekingfarm.org.
