Readings: March by Geraldine Brooks and Part One of America’s War: Talking About the Civil War and Emancipation on Their 150th Anniversaries, an anthology of historical fiction, speeches, diaries, memoirs, biography, and short stories, edited by Edward L. Ayers

War leaves a mark on individuals, often transforming their characters and challenging their beliefs. Join us for an engaging discussion on the personal impacts of the Civil War through the lens of both fact and fiction. The discussion will be led by Dr. Sarah Anne Rubin, Associate Professor of History, Unviersity of Maryland, Baltimore County. Starting with the book March, which tells the story of one man's experiences in the Civil War, the absent father from Louisa May Alcott's beloved classic Little Women, we will compare and contrast this with the writings from Alcott's journal about her experience as a nurse during the Civil War.

A limited number of the books to be discussed are available for borrowing from the Priddy Library. You do not need to have read the books to attend the discussion.
