Why Go: Watkins Mill follows up last week’s romp over Poolesville with maybe their toughest test of the season. The Swarmin’ Hornets of Damascus have made the state playoffs a record 13 years in a row—and walloped Watkins Mill 49-21 last year. Is this the year the tables turn?

3. Rake the Lake

When/Where: 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Lake Whetstone Park, 18701 Montgomery Village Ave.

Why Go: Pull on your parka and dig those galoshes out of the attic; it’s your last chance in 2011 to help the Friends of Whetstone Lake clean up the Village’s most prized amenity. Rain or shine. If you want to lend a hand, email FOWL members Jeannie Pizzonia jeanjoe53@comcast.net, Sharon Cranford shc18828@gmail.com or Nancy Farrar nmfarrar@earthlink.net.

Why Go: Farm-fresh fruits and veggies, plus a wide array of meats and dairy products.

5. A Very Soccer Saturday

When/Where: Watkins Mill’s girls host QO, while the boys ride down MV Ave to take on the rival Cougars on their turf. Both games are at 2:30 p.m.

Pricing: $5 for adults, $3 for students with ID, $1 for children.

6. Garden Club Hosts C&O Talk

When/Where: Monday, 7:30 p.m., at Whetstone Community Center, 18140 Brooke Grove Court.

Why Go: This MV Garden Club event offers the chance to hear first-hand about the winding path the C&O Canal took in becoming a national park. Jim Heins, one of the C&O Canal Association’s lead volunteers, will lead the discussion on the canal’s history, function and future.
