The Montgomery Village Golf Course Committee ... nothing to see here!

Acknowledging the down side of the Montgomery Village Golf Course (MVGC) development, one the recommendations in the Committee resolution contains just the right language in stating the objective “to achieve the least negative impact”. Is this flourishing? But let’s take it from the top.

The Montgomery Village Golf Course (MVGC) Committee resolution exhibits a total disregard for Village resident interests and opinions, the common underlying dependency on each of its five recommendations. In a democracy, Village resident opinion would be the driver, not to be overlooked.

  • The Committee needs to operate from a defined and specified statement of Village resident interests.

Instead the MVGC resolution is founded on the presumptions that golf course development is highly likely, that a dependent on a cooperative relationship the developer benefits Montgomery Village, and that golf course development will serve as a catalyst for the redevelopment of the Village Center. Before people buy into this inevitability, play nice, and growth feel-good recipe, some ground facts need to be stirred in.

Town Sector Zone amendment changes were not addressed in the resolution despite its glaring connection to several findings and recommendations. Without the Town Sector Zone amendment, the developer proposal would remain a paper tiger.

  • The Committee work needs to be explicitly tied to the dependency on Town Sector Zoning amendment approval.

Beyond that, since a majority vote of Village residents is necessary to annex an additional HOA into MVF and since voter apathy in the Village is well known, this path can never be taken. Here the developer has high hopes to be incorporated in MVF as a full fledged member, hopes that will not be fulfilled.

  • The Committee work needs to be realistically tied to the inability of the MVF to deliver a majority vote approving the golf course HOA entry into MVF.

With its head in the sand, the MVGC Committee is proceeding wishfully as if there’s nothing to see here.
