South Valley Park Toilets: Not Just One, But Two

Can two wrongs make a right?

That’s right, Senator Nancy King’s sports toilet has now blossomed into a second restroom in South Valley Park. Enough is enough!

How can this be?

Well, the Montgomery Village Foundation could not reconcile a site selection that satisfied the dual use of both the MVSA sports field users and the Lawn Theatre users. So that quandary and board indecision has spawned plans for a second restroom in South Valley Park.

How can Montgomery Village afford all this?

Astoundingly, the Montgomery Village Foundation Executive Vice President (EVP) proclaimed that the $250,000 including the $125,000 Maryland Bond Bill grant will be able to accommodate the South Valley Restroom and Concession stand and the Lawn Theatre Toilet. Two for the price of one?

Won’t this result in a short changed, truncated MVSA sports toilet?

Of course, it will. Not only that, the Maryland Bond Bill grant will be applied to just the MVSA sports toilet once the Maryland Department of General Services gets wind of this scheme. Its director has been notified of this turn of events.

How will this work out?

If the MVSA sports toilet project is scaled back to say $200,000 in order to provide funds for the Lawn Theatre Toilet,  the Maryland Bond Bill reimbursement will have to be scaled back accordingly from $125,000 to $100,000.

What is the most likely outcome?

What is more likely is that the South Valley Restroom and Concession stand will end up costing $250,000 and probably more. The Lawn Theatre toilet costs in the neighborhood of $50,000-$75,000 will be an additional cost burden for Village residents for an unwanted and unplanned project.
