The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (DOT) is performing geometric improvements on the westbound approach of Wightman Road at its intersection with Montgomery Village Avenue.

The following email was sent out by Shaorn Levine of the Montgomery Village Foundation, to all of the Montgomery Village HOA and condo association presidents and the MVF board of directors:

Both the North Village and Northgate Homes Corporation boards have reviewed the detailed plans provided by DOT and concur with the proposed scope of the work, which includes minor widening of a tiny section of Wightman Road to eliminate the severe westbound lane shift.  Currently, the westbound through lane is aligned with the eastbound left turn bay.  The proposed improvements will align the through lane on both sides of the intersection and will address DOT’s safety concerns and the complaints of citizens.

The improvements will also include the addition of new streetlights and a new bus pad near Sparrow Valley Drive, as well as improvement of roadway drainage to prevent further erosion of the road bed.

All improvements will be within the existing right-of-way and will not impact the split rail fence on the north side of Wightman Road.  Construction time is estimated in the range of three or four weeks.  All work will be performed between the hours of 9am and 3pm weekdays to minimize traffic impacts.
