A Tot Lot at Lake Whetstone?

The Montgomery Village Foundation mulls the possibility of replacing the old concrete turtle and dolphin at Lake Whetstone Park with new updated Tot Lot equipment.

I have stated in the past that I have concerns regarding the removal of any Tot Lot in Montgomery Village. I made a motion at the MVF Board meeting last week agreeing to such a removal in South Village. I then asked my colleagues on the board to ask the Parks, Recreation and Culture Committee along with the Rec staff to look into the possibility of replacing the old concrete turtle and dolphin at the Lake Whetstone Park with new updated Tot lot equipment to be placed in the very same area, next to the picnic tables and volleyball areas.

The parks in the Village really are areas for families and friends to gather, yet this park has no play area for children. When the Kettler brothers built the community, the parks were envisioned to be such gathering places for everyone, whether you reside in the Village or are guests.

I look forward to seeing a positive approach to my idea. I have heard from several residents that such an area for children is certainly needed, as well I have heard that "this park is a nature perserve." It is a park for all to enjoy and yes to co-exisit with the wildlife, yet it is not and was never planned to be a nature preserve.
