Ready to Hit All the Right Notes

Catch the beloved Montgomery Village Community Band today at statewide concert in Clarksville, then at Lawn Theater Series' first show on June 5.

Nearly 70 members strong, the Montgomery Village Community Band is packing up its trumpets, horns and trombones today to make the group's annual trek to the Maryland Community Band Day.

The MVCB was among the orginal players in the statewide celebration, which began in 1989. Montgomery Village hosted the event in 1999 and 2008.

This year, the Columbia Concert Band is hosting the free, rain-or-shine concert at River Hill High School in Clarksville. Eight bands are scheduled to perform, one each hour from noon through 8 p.m.

  • 1 p.m. Olney Concert Band
  • 2 p.m. Montgomery Village Community Band
  • 3 p.m. Baltimore Symphonic Band
  • 4 p.m. Browningsville Cornet Band
  • 5 p.m. Rockville Concert Band
  • 6 p.m. Bel Air Community Band
  • 7 p.m. Columbia Concert Band

The Village's volunteer band then comes home to kick off this summer's Lawn Theater Concert Series on June 5. The free show -- the first of 10 at the Lawn Theater -- is at 6 p.m.

Next up will be the Village's July 4 parade, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a concert at 11:30 a.m. The July 4th performance will mark Gordon W. Bowie's 12th anniversary as the band's conductor and director.
