Indie Kicks: Rock and Roll Hotel Celebrates Six Years

Three indie rock shows this weekend should sate your music cravings.

Forget Natitude, it's time for some Raditude. There are few things better than hanging out with some friends and seeing live music, but with so many shows all over the city it's tough to know what'll be good. Don't worry, we have you covered.

Check out Indie Kicks every Thursday for our rundown of who's coming to the D.C. area in the coming months.

This weekend:

  • Saturday - The ghosts of D.C. punk rock past have been resurrected for Rock and Roll Hotel's 6th Anniversary Show. History Repeated, the new band from legendary D.C. punk John Stabb, will be headlining the celebration. Local indie rock stars and one of my favorite current D.C. bands Monument will also be playing. The show will run the gamut from punk rock and nervous pop. Plus it's only $10 and doors are at 8 p.m.
  • Sunday - For a weekend dose of frantic pop, check out Young Rapids at DC9. Not only is the band local to D.C., but they recorded their first record Day Light Savings at Westbury Studios in Rockville. The show is $8 and doors are at 8 p.m.
  • Sunday - If you get a chance to bounce the few blocks over from DC9 to the Black Cat, you should catch a set by California indie pop sensation Joyce Manor. They're one of my favorite bands around today. Check out the rolling riffs of their song Beach Community. The show is $10 and doors are at 8 p.m.
