Get Out: Patch's Pick-and-Choose Weekend Planner

Get into the groove of summer with Lawn Theater concerts and the Village's inaugural farmers market.

After a spring spent bundled up and soaked to the bone, suddenly came summer in all its sweltering glory.

Thankfully, the National Weather Service says much milder climes are on tap for this weekend. To wit: sunny and barely 80 degrees tomorrow. Saturday: Mostly sunny with a high of 83 and a "slight chance" of afternoon thunderstorms. Expect a sunny Sunday with a high near 86.

Just in time for the grand opening of the Montgomery Village Farmers Market and this summer’s first concerts at the South Valley Park Lawn Theater—plus a bunch else to keep your weekend plenty interesting.

1. The Crimestoppers (classic rock and blues)

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the South Valley Park Lawn Theater, 18850 Montgomery Village Ave. (park behind Watkins Mill Elementary School)

Why Go: The first of three "Friday Free Concerts" at the Lawn Theater this summer brings the rock/blues sensibility of The Crimestoppers, who are marking their 30th year playing in and around Maryland. The five-piece (and sometimes six or seven) are wont to cover anyone from Neil Young to Los Lobos to Joe Jackson to the Grateful Dead.

Pricing: Free.

When/Where: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the parking at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 9801 Centerway Road.

Why Go: Eleven vendors—several of them with roots in Montgomery Village—will be offering hand-picked produce, free-range poultry and a host of assorted delectables. As much as the inaugural market is a chance to buy local and sustainable, it is also about community building: this is the first incarnation of the Montgomery Village Foundation’s years-long push to upgrade and expand the Village's menu of amenities.

Pricing: Admission is free.

3. Saybrooke Community Yard Sale

Where/When: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, starting at , 651 Saybrooke Oaks Blvd. in Gaithersburg.

Why Go: This annual yard sale lays claim to being the biggest in Gaithersburg. It starts at the school, where prospective shoppers are given maps listing the participating homes. Expects dozens of homeowners to be selling off a lifetime of trinkets and treasures.

Pricing: Happy haggling!

4. Fifth Annual Jubilation Day Gospel Concert

When/Where: 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Gaithersburg City Hall Concert Pavilion, 31 S. Summit Ave.

Why Go: Gaithersburg has a summer concert tradition of its own, which this year starts with a gospel celebration via song, dance and comedy. Headlining the shindig: acclaimed gospel group Rev. James N. Flowers, Jr. and Family.

Pricing: Admission is free. Food and crafts will be for sale.

5. Wine and Music Festival at Sugarloaf

Where/When: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard, 18125 Comus Road in Dickerson.

Why Go: Good vibrations, mon. Reggae group The Proverbs will provide the tunes, Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard will provide the wine.

Pricing: $15 in advance, $18 at the gate. Buy tickets here. Food will also be for sale.

6. Fashion, Music and Art for Autism

Where/When: 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at City Tavern Club, 3206 M St. NW, Washington, D.C., hosted by the nonprofit group Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children.

Why Go: It’s a bit of a hike, but for a good cause. The Montgomery Village-based nonprofit is putting the event on to benefit their nearly 400 autistic clients and their families. The runway show will feature fashion by D.C. artist Don Patron and designs for the professional woman to wear everyday by CAS Boutique. There will also be a silent auction featuring jewelry, wine, handbags and artwork made by some of CSAAC’s clients.

Pricing: General admission is $50. VIP registration is $100. To register for the event, call Ayda Sanver at 240-912-2256 or email her at asanver@csaac.org. VIP guests receive a gift bag with products, access to a private reception area, open bar and seating along the runway. Those seats are nearly sold out. For those who can’t attend, donations can be made by clicking “Support” on CSAAC’s website.

7. Sunday Summer Concert Series

When/Where: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the South Valley Park Lawn Theater, 18850 Montgomery Village Ave. (park behind Watkins Mill Elementary School)

Why Go: Grab a blanket and your loved ones and wind down the weekend with the . The 70-member ensemble is kicking off the Village’s 10-show concert series with selections from its well-honed retinue of show tunes. The concert series continues with a different act every Sunday night.
