Judging from the otherwise non-partisans happy with tonight's final score, lots of folks have a soft spot for the small-town, history-rich Packers.

The wings at Buffalo Wings and Beer do in fact live up to the hype.

Seems like Super Bowl ads used to be far more exciting. Maybe that was back when non-Super Bowl ads were far more pedestrian.

UPDATE 9:20 -- Drew Garza, Josh McClury and Lee Rocha made the drive up from Fort Belvoir after hearing word of BWB's legendary "coffin" sauce. Garza's verdict: Among the three hotest sauces he's ever had. The game's heating up, too: Packers 21, Steelers 17.

"I was ready to leave before the half. It's a whole new game," says Rocha, who's pulling for the Steelers.

UPDATE 8:38 -- Middling reviews of the Black Eyed Peas’ halftime show.

But the well-choreographed performance pales in comparison to Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake’s infamous wardrobe malfunction in Super Bowl XXXVIII, says Lorna of Silver Spring: “On a scale of 1 to 10, this was like a 7. Because when what’s-his-name ripped her top off, I was like, ‘Ohhhhhhh!’ Janet really took it to the next level.”

Says tablemate Greg of this year’s iteration: “It was nice, it was clean and the performance was good—and Fergie was hot.”

UPDATE 7:37 -- With his team down 14-3, Steelers fan Igor A. of Gaithersburg isn't worried one bit. Just like he never lost faith during Ben Roethlisberger's tumultous offseason, he has no doubt his favorite team will come out on top. His prediction: 24-21. "We gonna win. 'Cuz we're the Steelers and we always win," he says.

UPDATE 7:07 -- Says BWB owner Ira Levy: By game's end, the Gaithersburg store will have doled out more than 1,500 pounds of award-winning wings. The Cloverly branch will get closer to the one-ton mark. Levy has no particular stake in tonight's game other than it be entertaining enough to keep customers planted in their seats, a la BWB's all-time best Super Sunday four years ago, when the New York Giants and New England Patriots went down to the wire.

“I just want a close game and a last-minute score,” he says.

UPDATE 6:52 -- About 40 folks on hand at BWB—no obvious loyalties have emerged. A far cry from the scene at Outta the Way Cafe, no doubt…

UPDATE 6:48 -- The Internet is already buzzing that Christina Aguilera missed a line in the National Anthem...

START -- Yours truly has settled into a table at one of the most venerated sports bars around—Buffalo Wings and Beer on Snouffer School Road—a couple friends in tow and a frosty pitcher at my side.

Check in periodically through the course of the game as I talk to fellow Super Bowl watchers, weigh in on the commercials, get crowd reaction on the halftime show, keep count of the hundreds of wings the kitchen churns out and various other sundry minutiae.

Throw me a line at Sebastian.montes@patch.com for tips, reactions, game insights or your own intel about the backup to the assistant fitness trainer you spotted on the sidelines who once played third-string linebacker at your hometown school.

First up, MV Patch’s wholly uninformed prediction on the final score: Steelers 23, Packers 20. That’s in spite of years of being quite anti-Steelers and my emerging man-crush on Aaron Rodgers after he carried my fantasy football team deep into my league’s playoffs.
