Report: Metro Doesn't Know When Trains Will Go Back to Autopilot

The system is still being tested follow a 2009 Red Line crash.

The next time a Metrorail train is very slowly making you late, rest assured it's a flesh-and-blood operator, not an automated system. 

WTOP.com reports that the transit system is still testing its automated system after a failure in the system caused a deadly 2009 crash on the Red Line, leaving nine people dead outside of the Fort Totten station in Washington, DC. 

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's general manager told the news service that it'sworking with the National Transportation Safety Board on fixes to the system.
