Get Out: Patch's Pick-and-Choose Weekend Planner

Water, water everywhere this weekend.

Mother Nature is expected to bring a little relief this weekend weather-wise, with temperatures Saturday and Sunday forecast to fall off a few degrees—but with a 40 percent chance of rain on both days.

1. Ply the Waters of Lake Whetstone

When/Where: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Monday (until Labor Day) at the south dock at , 18701 Montgomery Village Ave.

Why Go: Make the most of the by taking one of the Montgomery Village Foundation’s five paddle boats, four rowboats or four canoes out for a spin. Call 301-948-0110, Ext. 2303 for more information.

Pricing: Village residents who show their MVF Activity Card can rent canoes and rowboats for $5/hour, and paddle boats for $4/half-hour. Non-residents pay $2 more per rental. Renters without activity cards must present a valid driver’s license or other identification. Renters must be at least 16 years old.

When/Where: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 9801 Centerway Road.

Why Go: Can Week Two of Montgomery Village’s farmers market live up to the rave reviews that poured in last week from the eleven vendors and the hundreds of shoppers? Word to the wise: If you want the choicest picks, get there before 9 a.m.

Pricing: Admission is free.

3. 38th Annual All-Comers Swim Meet

When/Where: 7:30 a.m. to noon at the , 20125 Arrowhead Road. (Rain date is Sunday.)

Why Go: Nearly every year there’s been a Montgomery Village, there’s been an all-comers swim meet to help kick off its hotly contested swim season. The meet is open to swimmers age 6 to 18. Warm up starts at 7:30 a.m.; the first races are at 8 a.m. Call 301-948-0110 for more information.

Pricing: For those who haven’t already paid the $1-per-event fee, the Montgomery Village Foundation is accepting $2 per event today at their office at 10120 Arrowhead Road.

4. Gaithersburg’s Outdoor Flea Market

When/Where: 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the , 16 Chestnut St. in Gaithersburg

Why Go: Gently used or new clothing, household items, collectibles and more.

Pricing: Admission is free.

5. Fourth Annual East Village picnic

When/Where: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the , 8821 East Village Ave.

Why Go: Music, moon bounce, food and all sorts of neighborly fun.

Pricing: Free.

6. Concert on the Lawn: the Back Pages Band

When/Where: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lawn Theater in South Valley Park, 18850 Montgomery Village Ave. (Parking lot is next to Watkins Mill Elementary School).

Why Go: The Back Pages Band will resurrect what the five-piece considers to be the "Golden Decade" of rock 'n roll—1963 to 1973. So look for a happily heavy dose of Beatles and Beach Boys, plus a helping of Van Morrison, The Kinks, Creedence Clearwater Revival and the like.
