"A lot of the folks that I've been chatting with today have said they're voting for it [the same-sex marriage referendum]; in fact only one person has said they're voting against it, so we're optimistic that tonight we'll be celebrating," David Rice of Friendship Heights said at 9:30 a.m. on Election Day. (Somerset Elementary School, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012.)
"I'd like to see Maryland be the first state to vote to affirm marriage equality, same-sex marriage on a popular referendum. We have that opportunity for this historic vote today," Susie Gelman of Chevy Chase said. (Chevy Chase Village Hall, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012.)
"I'm going to vote against it [the extended gambling referendum], mostly because I'm opposed to gambling in the first place," but also because "in the past, those revenues which have been supposedly for education have not all gone to education. ... We either need to target that money more carefully, or vote against it," Lucky Marmon of Chevy Chase said. (Somerset Elementary School, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012.)
"I voted 'no' on the gambling. ... I was against it from the beginning. ... I'm a Republican, but I was against it when [former Gov. Robert] Ehrlich was pushing it as well," Susan Denchfield of Chevy Chase Village said. (Chevy Chase Village Hall, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012.)
"I think it's really a turning point for the country whether or not we continue with the last four years, where we haven't had progress, where we haven't had success, or we turn back to those principles and ways of doing things that have traditionally been successful for America. ... [Also,] Question 6 is a vote for the retention of the traditional definition of marriage, and I think that's a very important question for Marylanders to answer," Chevy Chase resident Kurt Osuch—who ran against Maryland Sen. Richard Madaleno (D-District 18) in 2010—said. (Chevy Chase United Methodist Church, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012.)
