SPEAK OUT: When Is 'Lunchtime' Not Lunch Time Any More?

When many adults are still savoring that second cup of morning coffee, some kids are already having lunch.

When is "lunchtime" not time for lunch any more?

Perhaps when it's at 10:50 a.m.—which is, perhaps, a better time for a mid-morning snack and a cup of tea or coffee.

Watkins Mill High School's standard bell schedule has students eating lunch from 10:54 a.m. to 11:37 a.m.

Montgomery Village's elementary schools--South Lake, Stedwick, Watkins Mill and Whetstone--serve their lunches from roughly 11 a.m. through 1 p.m.

At Montgomery Village Middle School, 8th-graders eat at 10:52 a.m., 7th-graders at 11:41 a.m. and 6th-graders at 12:30 p.m.

If some of those lunch start-times seem a bit early, maybe it just goes with the territory of starting school early in the morning.

Clemente MS starts lunch at 10:45, Magruder HS starts lunch at 10:04. Both have 3 lunch periods. I suspect most HS kids don't eat breakfast. Our bus is at 6:30, so of course by 10:00 the kids are hungry...but cafeteria lunch items at 10:00 is not appealing.
