PHOTOS: Does Montgomery Village Have Sinkholes?
A Montgomery Village resident says a photo of a hole in the ground near the Thomas Choice Condominiums shows a sinkhole.
Does Montgomery Village have sinkholes? One resident thinks the Village might.
The above photos were taken of a ground depression near Thomas Choice Condominium, in the Apple Ridge Road area of Montgomery Village.
Montgomery Village Foundation Director of Community Management Karen Kodjanian said the sinkhole is on private property (not owned by Montgomery Village) and damaged a pipe for a nearby pond.
The pipe is scheduled to be fixed next week, Kodjanian said.
On Friday, March 1, a Florida man was believed to be dead after being swallowed by a sinkhole the night before.
The sinkhole was reportedly 20- to 30-feet wide.

This is not Apple Ridge Rd as the caption states. It's on a hill between Thomas Choice and Maryland Farm very near the fence for the golf course at the 18th hole. The hole grew every day and the MVF emergency dispatch response was that they're not responsible for "holes in your wall" despite how many of us called to report a sink hole. Thankfully enough residents were able to escalate to the community manager before something bad happened. This also started before the Florida incident. I'm thankful that someone is finally taking notice. It has since been better secured with a flexible orange construction fencing. I can't imagine how much more dangerous it would have been given today's snow if there weren't a better barricade.

Amy, sorry but I almost had to laugh 'cause response from MVF seemed typical & similar to basic response I've received over the years..."It's not my (our) job. We only take care of tennis courts, swimming pools, etc. Call your HOA"! Then you call your HOA & get the same runaround..."it's not our job; call MVF". In the meantime, Amy, you probably should have worn a bungee cord in case you fell into hole. LOL!
